Qualvu Holiday Party

Qualvu celebrated our second annual Holiday Party, with some new interesting and creative twists this year.  Repeating our Secret Santa tradition, the surprise gifts didn’t fail to entertain:  Remote controlled cars, iTunes certificates, garden gnomes, a life-sized Operation board game, DVDs of classic 70’s movies, and even a set of nunchunks; each found their way to lucky Qualvu employees.  Food was catered Thai from down the street, and the setting was our new office.  However the evening’s highlight was truly unique — each Qualvu department Read more »

holiday shopping diy market research for retailers

If, as the lyrics of the song go, Santa “..knows when you are sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, he knows when you’ve been bad or good…” well, that makes Santa the envy of all retailers trying to gain insights into their customers at Christmas. If only they knew what Santa knows, they might have to work only one day a year, too!  That’s because knowing what’s in the mind of the customer leads directly to what’s in the bank account of the retailer.   Read more »

mad-men-focus-group

As we get ready to turn the page on another year, it’s amazing to consider just how far qualitative research has come – and just how much it can deliver– since it began not that many years ago.   Qualitative research to find out what customers were thinking grew out of customers having to think about what they were buying. When there were fewer choices in the market, consumers didn’t have to think much about making choices. Consider Coca-Cola. In the beginning, there was Coca-Cola, Read more »

assess-your-business-ideas

One thing all successful businesses share is that they’re built on a solid foundation.  That foundation is built on information and intelligence – information about your potential market, and intelligence about how potential customers will perceive your product or service.   Often, cash-strapped start-ups rely on hunches or perception to give them insight into consumers, but doing so presents risks that usually turn out to be formidable.  This phenomenon is sometimes referred to as a “sample of one.”  It works this way:  Your brother-in-law or Read more »

Qualitative Research Crowdsourcing

The many are smarter than the few. A collection of independently-deciding individuals is likely to make certain types of decisions and predictions better than individuals or even experts.  And, coincidentally, they are likely to take actions that can be of significant benefit to the companies who can harness them. This was the gist of James Surowiecki’s 2004 book, The Wisdom of the Crowds. And now companies are putting those theories into action with Crowd-sourcing.   Crowd-sourcing is when companies outsource tasks to a large group Read more »
