How many questions are incorporated into a typical Qualvu project?
That is first and foremost up to you – however we can provide guidance into the typical scope. A Qualvu project is limited to up to 7 video assignments (times when participants will record a session). Each assignment consists of multiple open-ended questions. This scope of assignments and questions generates a remarkable data breadth and depth – often surprising our clients! Assignment responses average between 3 ½ and 5 minutes each. While this is not limited – participants can respond for as long as they wish, however these are averages calculated over tens of thousands of responses.
How long does the typical project last?
Start to finish (that is, recruit to report), project length can last between 7 to 14 days – and sometimes longer for particularly hard to find respondent types. The in-field portion, that is, the time in which participants are answering questions via video, typically lasts 1 to 4 days.
Can I do live video exchanges using Qualvu?
Qualvu deploys only our innovative asynchronous approach. Our technology and approach have been specifically designed to generate optimal consumer candor, accuracy and depth – well beyond what can be achieved via live, streaming sessions. Additionally our video output can be easily organized into highlight reels and reports using our proprietary online platform.
Can participants edit or delete their video responses?
They cannot delete their response but they are provided the option to record multiple responses for any question.
Do participants get an alert that an assignment has been generated for their participation?
Alerts are generated within the Qualvu portal and sent to each participants email when an assignment is live and ready for data collection.
What role do project managers play throughout the project?
Qualvu has a team of Project Managers with combined experience managing hundreds of projects from start to finish. The options you select during the creation of your project determines the extent of their role in in-project communication, however rest assured they are tracking every last detail of every project, ensuring all goes according to exacting schedules and milestones.

How do you recruit, can you target very specific audiences? Do you have a panel you pull from?
QualVu has completed custom recruiting for hundreds of projects, each with their own unique screening criteria. We bring to bear numerous partnerships with recruiting firms that we use daily around the globe, and Qualvu also conducts on-demand ad hoc recruiting and manage a worldwide panel of webcam-enabled participants (you can see more about Qualvu’s panel at www.truepanel.com). We can conduct outbound recruiting campaigns, recruit from customer lists, as well as leverage our own panel of tens of thousands of possible respondents.
Does Qualvu recruit globally?

If I provide you a customer list to recruit from, how many names do I need to provide?
The cooperation rate really depends on how engaged the provided participants are, and how willing they are in participating. Qualvu will provide the appropriate incentives to maximize participation, and will conduct follow-up communications to confirm each respondent. As a rule of thumb, the size of the list should be 20 times the number of desired participants for highly engaged customers and up to 50 times the desired number of participants for low engagement customer lists.
How long does participant recruitment take?
Our standard timeline for recruiting is 10 days, however the Qualvu DIY portal allows for expedited project timelines. For repeat panels, it usually takes about 24-36 hours to turn around.
How big of a sample size do I need for my Qualvu project?
Projects average between 15-20 participants, which ensures you gain quality depth in insights, and hear enough repetition to have the findings be conclusive. However as a qualitative research methodology, Qualvu sample sizes are generally much smaller than surveys. Many projects have 10 respondents and produce a remarkable insight depth and breadth.
Is the population that you recruit from consist of only participants that have webcams –– or do you send cameras to recruits?
While we always ask if a qualified recruit already has a webcam (generally about 20% of the US population currently), if the qualified respondent does not already have a camera we will send them a free webcam which they can keep once the study is over. Those webcam-enabled participants can be utilized again in future projects. For studies which require mobile cameras (or “flip” style cams) where incidence is lower, Qualvu will typically provide the entire sample a free camera.
Do my participants need web access? How about high-speed Internet?
If your participants do not have Internet access or even computer, handheld flip-style cameras can be sent out and shipped back to Qualvu for upload and processing. Qualvu has a proprietary bandwidth detection and automated video adjustment feature that allows people of varying Internet connection speeds to participate in Qualvu projects. This is particularly applicable in rural areas as well as countries with less incidence of broadband such as India.
Are there some target groups that Qualvu is particularly suited to, and equally some target groups that it is not suited for?
Since Qualvu allows you to interact with participants in their homes, at work, and even on-the-go, it is an ideal solution in reaching hard-to-reach recruits. Hence virtually any target group –whether consumers or professionals, is suited for participation. QualVu has successfully conducted projects for teens to the elderly, and in geographies throughout the world.
Can I continue to use the recruits from my study after my initial project with Qualvu?
Of course! Recruits already armed with cams and familiar with the Qualvu process are ideal candidates for ongoing projects, and Qualvu can easily arrange their participation. Additionally the cost to re-engage previous participants is less than initial recruiting costs.
How are people incentivized?
Qualvu provides an optional free video camera (either PC-style webcam or “flip” style mobile camera) to qualifying participants which they get to keep once the project is completed, as well as a cash incentive upon completion of the video assignments. Cash incentives vary depending on how hard to reach your target respondents are, however they typically average between $50 and $90 per project.
